How to clean a very tarnished peice of costume jewellery?

Hi there,

I have this ring which I haven’t worn in years, but I used to wear it all the time. I stopped because it had got so tarnished that the band was a bright copper colour and it was turning my finger green.

It is definitely not a silver ring; I think it is metal, but I’m not sure if it is a plated piece. It is a gold coloured band with a sort of jewelled and enamelled design.
